St. Joseph Shelter of Hope
A message from Patterson
In the slightly over two years since the cervical cancer equipment (purchased with funds from NPC) was installed, 4960 women have been screened. Screenings are done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. "When I was there during my most recent break, I did 38-40 screenings on each of the dedicated days. I saw women from as far away as Kitui and Kwale counties. "Eighty percent of the women screened (3,968) were diagnosed and treated with the machines donated by NPC. Those who had complex complications, I referred to tertiary facilities. I am in close contact with them. The majority of the women referred are HIV+. "The new gynecological beds, which were also purchased with funds from NPC, have made it easy to screen patients. It takes just 15 minutes to do a screening. "There is an ongoing program on a Catholic radio station that encourages women to get screened at St Joseph Shelter of Hope Mission Hospital in Voi. ![]() ![]() |
